The BFG [Big Friendly Giant] – Roald Dahl
This story is about a girl named Sophie who spends time with a big friendly giant
It was night time. Sophie was tucked up in her bed. She wasn’t sleepy at all. She was literally looking at the window next to her which was wide open. She thought, “This night is the quietest night than other nights, this kind of a night is called the witching hour”. She got tired of staying in her bed awake that she got up and stood near the window looking at all the shops, trees etc. As she was watching, suddenly she heard footsteps marching towards her. She got scared.
She turned her head towards the direction where she heard that sound. She saw a man three times taller than an ordinary man. She then noticed that man pulling out a trumpet from his suitcase and put it inside the open window. Then he blew the trumpet and he took something out of his wide long hands and put it inside a bottle. Sophie wondered what that was. The man walked towards Sophie’s house and he found her awake. He put his long hands through the window and grabbed the little girl Sophie and went to his house. As he put Sophie down on the floor, he saw her sweating.
Sophie asked the man nervously, “Why did you bring me here?”. The man said, “We are giants. When we see humans awake, we will have to take them and bring them here””. Sophie asked, “Are you gonna kill me?”. The giant said “I’m supposed to, but I’m not like other giants who kills people”. I’m going to keep you with me”.
Sophie then nervously said “Okay”.
The next day Sophie learned a lot of new things about other giants. Sophie was thirsty she asked the giant, “I want water”.
“Water?. There’s no such thing as water” said the giant.
Sophie said, “Then what do you drink if you are thirsty?”
“We drink a juice called frobscottle.”
Sophie then drank the frobscottle the bfg gave her.
Sophie asked, “What do you eat when you are hungry?”
The bfg said, “We eat something called scozzcumbers“.
As they were talking they heard a tremendous noise. The bfg said, “Oh! no! It is one of the giants named bloodblotter. Hide Sophie”. The bloodblotter entered the room and the bfg welcomed him warmly.
The bloodblotter said, ” I know you have a human in here”.
The bfg said, “There is no human in here”.
As the bloodblotter was looking around, the bfg suddenly gave him scozzcumbers, the bloodblotter ate and in half way he spit it out and ran away.
The bfg looked down and saw Sophie. Sophie said, “I was actually sitting on the scozzcumber”. The bfg wiped out the dirt on Sophie and said, “It is night time; we have to catch dreams”. Then he took Sophie on his hand along with a trumpet and a water bottle and left.
The bfg then took out his trumpet, kept it near an open window. He sucked the dreams and put it inside the water bottle.
Sophie said, “It is wobbling like anything”.
The bfg said, “It is wobbling because they are dreams”. “I distribute the good dreams to children whereas I destroy the bad dreams”.
He went to the other sleeping giants and sucked their dreams up.
The bfg said to Sophie, “Let’s go and meet the Queen of England “.
He put Sophie in his huge ears and started his journey to England.
On their way Sophie was taking something really loud that the bfg’s ear started shaking.
The bfg said to Sophie, “Please don’t speak loud. My ear drums are shaking badly”.
When they reached England, bfg was confused where to go.
Sophie said, “I have come to this place before, so go around the round-about, you will find the queen’s palace”.
The bfg followed Sophie’s instruction and reached the queen’s palace. They were next to the queen’s window when the bfg noticed two people walking.
He hid himself and when they left he got up, He put Sophie down and whispered in her ears, “I will lift you up and keep you near the queen’s window, you sit there until the queen wakes up”.
Sophie sat on the queen’s window and heard the queen snoring extremely loudly. Sophie also heard footsteps marching towards the queen. She heard the queen speak, “Mary nice to meet you”.
As the maid turned back, she saw someone sitting on the window. She opened the window and saw a giant and a human being. The maid screamed. The queen kept staring at the giant.
The queen asked, “Why are you hear Mr. Giant?”.
The bfg said, “Your majesty, I wanted to meet you”.
The queen welcomed him and decided to give him some food. The bfg had to sit on a big clock and eat.
“Please call the army of the two heads”, the queen said.
The bfg narrated the whole story to them and asked them to destroy the giants. The army of the two heads brought helicopters and cars.The bfg said, “Please follow me to my home”. When they reached the bfg’s home, they noticed that the giants were fast asleep. When they got ready to capture the giants, one of the giants woke up. As Sophie was so tiny she bit the giant’s leg and he cried with pain.
The bfg encouraged her, finally they all tied them over the helicopter and threw them in a hole next to the queens palace.
The people who saw this, made a note in bold capital letters that it was forbidden to feed the giants.
The Phantom of the Orchestra – Geronimo Stilton
This story is about a girl who is interested in music.
Once there was a girl named Violet. She was very addicted to phones. She was always using her phone doing something none of them knew.
One day Violet and her friends were watching a movie. Violet as usual was using her phone. In half way through the movie Violet got bored of using her phone and she slept of. When the movie was over suddenly Violet’s friends heard a ticking sound in Violet’s phone. Violet’s friends went and peeped into her phone and saw who sent the message. They heard that Violet has been selected for a music contest on the topic Romeo and Juliet held at London. Violet’s friends were overjoyed.
When Violet woke up she saw someone had kept a paper on the table in which something was written. Violet read the paper and followed its instructions. Finally the instructions led her to a room. Violet opened the door, she was shocked to see everyone with a board on their hand. The board had the word ‘Congratulations’. Her friends told everything they saw on Violet’s phone. Violet felt very excited. She wanted to spend time with her friends as she was going to leave the country and was going to miss her close friend.
But Violet’s friends were really busy whenever she called them to play. The day before Violet was about to leave, her friends came to her and said, “We couldn’t spend time with you as we were working on our school project and other school things as we have decided that we would accompany to London”.
Violet was really happy that she jumped with joy. The next day Violet and her friends left for London together. They were so eager to watch the contest of Romeo and Juliet. They all reached their destination. The next day Violet gave measurements for her dress and so did the other performers of Romeo and Juliet. On the day of the contest the inspector, Mr.Paul talk about the rules of the contest to the audience.
The contest was about to begin when suddenly one of the performers went to the inspector and told, “My dress is not fitting me”.
“What!”, screamed the inspector, “this is a disaster”
So many people reported these kinds of problems on that day. Mr. Paul went to Violet’s friends and told, “I thought you guys were really responsible. Go out and find what is going on”
Violet’s friends felt sad as they got scoldings from Mr. Paul. They went to Mr. Albert the tailor’s place. Violet’s friends went to Mr. Albert’s place and found a lady sitting in the reception.
All of Violet’s friends asked, “We want to meet Mr. Albert”. The lady said, “He is inside this room”, pointing to a room located beside her’s.
Violet’s friends thanked the lady and went inside the room. They saw Mr Albert sitting and working in a computer.
Mr Albert said, “Hello”.
Violet’s friends responded back saying hello. The girls narrated the whole story and why it was happening. Mr Albert checked in his computer and said Mr.Paul had sent two messages. First message had the information about the costumes. The second message had different information about the costumes.
” I believed the second message thinking that it is the correct information about the costumes”.
The girls thanked Mr. Albert for his kind information and set of for their hotel. When the girls were about start climbing the staircase, they noticed Mr.John who was also a tailor. But the girls didn’t know it was John’s twin brother that they saw. They also noticed that Mr John’s twin brother was wearing a watch. The girls continued climbing up the stairs. When the girls reached the end of the staircase they noticed the same person they saw down stairs. This time the girls observed he wasn’t wearing a watch.
”Something fishy going out here”, said one of the girls.
The girls then discussed among themselves and decided that they could find out the truth only when they see both the persons in a spot together. The girls told Violet and her friend Sarat everything.
‘This is the best time to find out the truth” said one of the girls. Violet said, “I will go call John alone. You guys go call the person you said who looked like John”.
The girls brought both the twin brothers together to a spot as both of them can see each other. They explained their situation to both the twin brother. Both of them started fighting by finger pointing each other.
The girls told Mr. Paul everything. Mr. Paul was really angry that he chased both the twin brothers from the hotel. The next day was the contest everything went perfectly. Violet performed really well that Mr. Paul said she could perform in another contest as well.
The girls had to leave home the next day. The next day when they were about to get boarded into the aeroplane they all gave a warm hug to Violet and returned back home.
Sarah, Plain and Tall – Patricia MacLachlan
Sarah, Plain and Tall, a book by Patricia MacLachlan, starts as a sad story and ends happily.
There was a lady who had two children Caleb and Anna. The lady loved singing and so did her husband.
After a few days…….
Something unexpected happened. During the night time all the children were tucked up in their little beds and so were their parents. The next day the man and the children woke up but the lady didn’t wake up. The man tried waking his wife many times but she didn’t respond nor get up. Soon the man realised that his wife had passed away.
The man decided to remarry again and found a woman in Maine. Her name was Sarah Elisabeth Wheaton.
The man wrote a letter to the woman in Maine saying when she would come. Sarah responded saying, “I will come during the spring time. I will come by train wearing a yellow bonnet. I am plain and tall“.
Then Caleb wrote a letter to Sarah asking, “Do you sing? “.
“Yes“, responded Sarah.
Caleb and Anna were wondering whether there stepmother would be kind to them. During spring time Sarah arrived and the house was decorated just the way she wanted the house to look like. Sarah also brought her little dog Seal along with her. Sarah loved seeing the sheep, seeing them made her smile. But as Sarah was from Maine she didn’t know how to speak English. If she had to say yes she would say “aei“.
The children’s father taught Sarah how to plough the field, take care of the sheep and so on. As the children had expected, their stepmother Sarah was really kind to them. She took care of them and they all again became united and lived happily.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Roald Dahl
Charlie and the chocolate factory begins with a sad story. Charlie is a young and poor boy, who lives with his grandparents and parents. He never used to get the amount of food he has to get. Charlie’s parents earned just enough money to feed Charlie. They ate the food that was left over after Charlie finished eating. Charlie used to go to school and on his way Charlie would see Willy Wonka’s factory.
Willy Wonka Factory is a factory where people come to work like an office. Willy Wonka factory makes chocolates. Willy Wonka factory chocolates are the tastiest chocolates better than other factory chocolates. In Willy Wonka factory they make chocolates that wouldn’t melt in sunlight.
But suddenly something unexpected happened.
Workers from other factories started stealing the secret recipes from Willy Wonka‘s factory. So Willy Wonka closed the factory. This was a shock for everyone. They used to come near the brass gate and would peep through the window that was inside the gate to see if there’s anybody inside the factory or not. But only one thing that was visible through the window was small shadows moving in all directions. People who were near the brass gate waiting for it to open did not know that the moving shadows were Willy Wonka’s.
After a few days …….
Willy Wonka sent a message saying that five children will be allowed inside the factory, and the lucky five children will be allowed to see all the secrets of the factory. Mr Willy Wonka also asked to bring the children’s parents along with the children. He wrote this message on a golden ticket and placed into a chocolate wrapper with a message above the wrapper saying ‘Willy Wonka’. The first golden ticket was found by a greedy little boy named Augustus Gloop. The second golden ticket was found by Violet Beurgarade and like that others including Charlie, got the golden ticket too.
Everybody along with their parents came to the factory and went to room named ‘Chocolate room’. In the chocolate room Augustas Gloop saw a puddle mixed with chocolate. Augustus Gloop saw the chocolate river and started licking the chocolate greedily. Willy Wonka saw Augustus Gloop eating the chocolate greedily. Willy Wonka told Augustus Gloop, “Oh! Dear Augustus Gloop, I don’t think that is meant for humans to eat”. While Augustus Gloop was listening to Willy Wonka he suddenly tripped over something and he fell into the chocolate river.
Everybody except Augustus Gloop and his parents went to another room named ‘The Chewing gum room’. Willy Wonka showed them all, how to make chewing gum. Violet Beaurgade who loved eating chewing gum didn’t know that the chewing gum was magical. Violet ignored Willy Wonka’s warning. After a few bites of the chewing gum, Violet’s face started to become purple and she started to become fat. Her parents were shouting at Violet to spit the chewing gum, but Violet replied, “No. I won’t spit. It is quite tasty”. So like Augustus and Violet every other child got into some trouble.
Only one person did not get into trouble and that was Charlie Bucket.
In the end Willy Wonka told Charlie that he has started getting old and he has decided to hand over the factory to Charlie.
After reading this book, I watched this movie in Prime Video 🙂
Charlotte’s Web – E.B.White
Fern owned a pig called Wilbur. After a few days Fern’s pig started to get old and Fern left the pig to Mr. Zukerman. In Mr. Zukerman’s shed, Wilbur made a friend named Charlotte, a gray spider. Soon Charlotte and Wilbur became good friends . But Charlotte was trying to save Wilbur from Mr.Zukerman because Mr. Zukerman was not treating Wilbur like his own pig. So that’s why Charlotte wrote words like some pig , terrific and radiant etc.

After a fair, Charlotte was nearly dead. Wilbur asked Charlotte to eat something but Charlotte told Wilbur not to be ridiculous. Charlotte was missing her egg sack. Charlotte told Wilbur to take care of the egg sack. Charlotte died telling Wilbur to take care of her egg sack. Charlotte nearly had thousands of kids. But all the kids ran away from Wilbur and only three kids of Charlotte were left over. Wilbur named the three kids Joy, Aranea and Nellie.
The story Charlotte’s web is an adventure’s story.
Bug Circus (by Kathy Darling)
I go to a library called Book World every week. One day I brought a book called Bug Circus. I liked that book so much because it was different. Five friends Joe, Paul, Bill, Sandy and Tara come up with an idea to catch insects and conduct a circus show. Everybody goes to get insects. Joe gets a beetle. Paul finds a caterpillar. Bill gets grasshoppers and Sandy finds a bug. Tara is not able to get any bug initially. They put the bugs in jars and train them.
The real fun started with the circus show. Bill presented the grasshopper called “The Hopper Brothers”. He made the grasshopper jump over a little stick. Sandy made her bug skate on a bowl of water. Everyone cried “Hurray”. Joe made his beetle dive into the water and Paul put his caterpillar on a string like a tight rope walker. Everybody cheered and clapped. When people thought the circus was over, Tara yelled about her spider act. Yes! She had caught spiders and hosted the top act, “The Flying Trapeze”. Her spiders spun a thread and started swinging on a trapeze bar.
I love this book because it’s very imaginative and thoroughly enjoyable.
