Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG)
Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) are products that sell quickly, at a low cost. FMCG are also known to as Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG). They include beverages, medicines, toiletries, stationaries etc.
My dad introduced me to FMCG. He asked me to list some of the Fast Moving Consumer Goods I use at home in an Excel sheet and write down the company that manufactures each product, its MRP, net weight and net volume.
The manufacturer’s name is usually printed on the backside of the item, most of the time. The MRP is the Maximum Retail Price of a particular item. It’s fraudulent to charge more than the MRP. It is better to avoid these shops. Net weight or net volume is the product’s actual weight or volume excluding its packaging wherein a gross weight is the total weight including its packaging.

The irritating sparrow
In a certain town, there was a king. One day as he was taking a stroll in his garden a sparrow from a tree hummed, “The king doesn’t have any money, only I have money”.
The king got extremely angry with the bird that he screamed at one of his soldiers to snatch the money from the bird. The soldier climbed up the tree and snatched the money from the bird and came down.
The bird groaned, “The king is a really bad person; he grabbed my money!”.
The king’s anger towards the bird knew no bounds. “Now, throw that money back to the bird”, the king shouted at the soldier.
The bird said, “The king got scared of me, which is why he returned my money”.
The king felt like his head was about to burst. The king squeaked, “Soldier! chase the bird”.
The bird bellowed, “Oh no! The king wants me to leave this place.” and flew away from that place.
The king felt really angry with himself after this incident. He thought, “I should have ignored the bird instead of wasting my time doing these things”.
Moral: Choose the battles you fight
This is actually a Tamil story. I have translated it to English. All thanks to my dad. He was the one who made me read Tamil story books and asked me to translate one of the stories to English. Thanks dad! 😊.
